The scientific advisory board is comprised of highly acclaimed physicians, university professors, thought leaders and experts in late-stage clinical research. Our scientific advisors have extensive backgrounds in the areas of hepatology, virology, infectious diseases and immunology, among other disciplines. These individuals play a key role in guiding and supervising the advancement of the organization’s portfolio and strategic programs.

Jordan J. Feld, MD MPH

J.feld

Dr. Jordan Feld trained in GI and Hepatology at the University of Toronto and did post-doctoral training in the Liver Diseases Branch at the National Institutes of Health in laboratory and clinical research in viral hepatitis. After completing a Masters in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, he returned to Toronto. He is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and serves as Director of the Toronto Centre for Liver Disease at the Toronto General Hospital, where he holds the R. Phelan Chair in Translational Liver Research as a clinician-scientist and leads a large clinical and translational research program focused primarily on viral hepatitis and its complications.

Ed Gane, MBChB, MD, FRACP, FAASLD, MNZM

Dr. Ed Gane is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, Hepatologist and Deputy Director of the New Zealand Liver Unit at Auckland City Hospital. He was involved in early phase development of the first oral cure for hepatitis C and is now focused on developing a finite cure for hepatitis B. Dr. Gane has published over 450 papers and has received many research awards, including the Health Research Council Beaven and Liley Medals.

Anna Suk-Fong Lok, MD, DSc (Hon), FAASLD, AGAF

Dr. Anna Lok is the Dame Sheila Sherlock Distinguished University Professor of Hepatology and Internal Medicine, Alice Lohrman Andrews Research Professor of Hepatology in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on natural history and treatment of hepatitis B and C. She has published more than 600 papers including each edition of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) guideline on hepatitis B. Dr. Lok has received numerous awards for mentoring, research, and service over the years, and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine.

Mark Sulkowski, MD

M.sulkowski

Mark Sulkowski is a Professor of Medicine, the Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Trials, and the Founding Director of the Office of Clinical Trials at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He also serves as the Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and the Medical Director of the Viral Hepatitis Center in the Divisions of Infectious Diseases and Gastroenterology/Hepatology in the Department of Medicine. He received his MD from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA, pursued training in Internal Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine, Durham, NC, and completed his Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

Professor Sulkowski has been the principal investigator for more than 200 clinical trials on managing viral hepatitis B and C. He is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and the American Association of Physicians, and has widely published with more than 375 peer-reviewed articles.

Man-Fung YUEN, MBBS, MD, PhD, DSc

Professor Man-Fung Yuen is the Chair Professor of The University of Hong Kong and Li Shu Fan Medical Foundation Professor in Medicine, and the Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. Professor Yuen is currently leading most of the international trials examining new drugs for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B, including antiviral and immunomodulatory agents. He is also actively performing cutting-edge research on novel markers for hepatitis B infection and occult hepatitis B infection. He has published more than 630 papers in world-renowned medical journals, and has delivered more than 360 lectures globally.
